Begin your journey with a scenic 25 minutes boat ride across the Indian Ocean from Stone Town. As you approach Changuu Island, its lush greenery and colonial architecture come into view – a glimpse into its layered past.
Upon arrival, your guide will walk you through the historic prison ruins, sharing stories of the Island’s 19th Century role in Zanzibars slave trade history and its transformation into a quarantine station during colonial rule.
Next, meet the Island’s giant Aldabra Tortoises. Some of which are over 150 years old, originally gifted from the Seychelles, they now live in a protected sanctuary where you can interact with them.
